More about the Man and His Hearses
On Wednesday, we began talking about Ronnie Grubbs and how his passion for hearses and funeral cars turned into a successful full-time career. Today, we’re going to talk about little more about Grubbs and his hearses.
Grubbs operates his business out of a Signal Hill warehouse in Long Beach. He has 11 hearses on his lot. They range from 1957 to 1999. But hearses aren’t the only thing he owns. He also has more than 40 caskets. Throughout the year, he mainly rents them to TV studios and filmmakers. During the Halloween season, however, almost all of them get rented out for haunted houses and other purposes.
But Grubbs isn’t just about having fun with death-related merchandise. He has been a licensed funeral director since 1995. As such, he also provides transportation and other services for “real funeral services.” Many loved ones of car enthusiasts come to him for his funeral transportation services because he has antique hearses that the deceased would have loved. It’s like one last homage to the person being carried to the burial site by letting them ride in a classic hearse. Grubbs’ most popular (and his favorite) of all his hearses is a 1959 black Cadillac hearse with “suicide doors” and bullet-shaped tail lights.
We’ll probably write more about Ronnie Grubbs in the days and weeks to come. Until then, have a happy and safe Halloween weekend!
