I’ve Heard of Funeral Cars, But This Is Ridiculous

November 03, 2008 | | Comments 0

Brian Millett of Ontario, Canada has taken the idea of funeral cars several steps further than anybody else that I’ve ever heard of. The NASCAR fan has taken a pre-owned coffin into his garage, added wheels and a motor and turned it into a casket car.

At first, you might think he did this because he loves hearses, funeral cars and horror movies. But that isn’t true. He does like a few popular Stephen King movies, but he’s more of a “tinkerer” that enjoys turning immobile objects into movable vehicles. In fact, he recently motorized a bar stool as one of his projects.

The idea to make a “coffin car” occurred when his funeral director buddy needed to get rid of a rented coffin. He mounted it on a frame and began working on making it a vehicle. For Millett, this was like a dream come true as he’s always wanted to make something out of a coffin. Before he got this opportunity, he was planning on buying a metal one and turning it into a barbecue.

So far, Millett has invested about $1,500 into converting the macabre merchandise into a drivable car. He’s also invested about 50 hours of labor even though it’s still not finished. He thinks it will take at least 400 hours of work before it reaches his vision for the finished product.

There’s a lot more to this story. And since it’s such a fun and uplifting one, we’ll write more about it tomorrow. Be sure to come back for more!
