Funeral Cars Not Immune from Theft

pennsylvaniaYou would think that funeral cars and hearses would be one thing that thieves would not steal. Not only does that seem like a morbid and inhumane thing to do, but funeral cars are easier to spot than other vehicles. But some thieves don’t seem to care because hearses still get stolen.

This particular story of a stolen funeral car comes from the Boston area. On Thursday night, he reported a stolen funeral car that was missing from his business in Quincy. The owner – Dennis Sweeney – made the discovery at about 9:30 am this morning. At first thought one of his employees had borrowed it for the evening as they sometimes do. But after making some phone calls, he realized it was stolen.

Sweeney is unsure about what the thieves have planned for the funeral car. “It’s going to stick out like a sore thumb,” he said in an interview with the local newspaper. “On the inside you can see that it is clearly converted into a hearse,” he explained. “There is an area for the caskets to be rolled inside and out.”

So if you see any funeral cars driving around with a license plate that says “Hearse 965,” call the Boston police to report it. You may just be a hero!
